Residents of Upper Makefield, Pennsylvania now have lower flood insurance premiums because of the community’s initiatives to implement better floodplain management measures encouraged by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

FEMA Region 6 is hosting Hazard Mitigation and Floodplain Management trainings open to all to present best practices, challenges, and innovative programs in floodplain management. In this webinar, learn how flood risk and flood loss data can help potential property owners make informed decisions and help current property owners consider potential mitigation actions. Flood disclosure varies from state to state and often is not easily or publicly accessible, but two groups are working to change that to get information to residents and decision makers.

Representatives from FEMA will host a Flood Map Information Open House for communities in Dodge County, Minnesota, on April 11, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m. CT. The open house will give residents a chance to review preliminary versions of the recently completed Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

Through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), FEMA has awarded $2,315,164 to the city of Aurora, Ohio, for a flood risk reduction project. This grant will fund the acquisition and demolition of 11 flood-prone residential structures and the acquisition of one flood-prone vacant parcel.
