DENVER – Boulder County renters whose residences and property were damaged by the Marshall Fire and straight-line winds can apply for federal disaster assistance. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 2, 2022.

Boulder County renters and homeowners can apply for assistance or check on the status of their application in the following ways:

  • Going on-line to DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Calling 800-621-3362 between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. MST. Multilingual operators are available. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service.
  • Visiting the Disaster Recovery Center at 1755 S. Public Road, Lafayette, Colorado. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays).
  • Downloading the FEMA mobile app for smartphones.

FEMA Individual Assistance is available to renters, including students, as well as homeowners. Federal grants can help pay for temporary housing along with other assistance based on FEMA eligibility criteria.

Renters may also qualify for aid under FEMA’s Other Needs Assistance program. These funds are for uninsured or underinsured essential personal property losses and other disaster-related expenses. Eligible expenses may include replacement or repair of necessary personal property, such as furniture, appliances, clothing, textbooks, or school supplies; replacement or repair of tools and other job-related equipment required by the self-employed; primary vehicles; and uninsured or out-of-pocket medical, dental, childcare, moving and storage expenses.

Long-term, low-interest disaster loans for renters, homeowners, businesses and nonprofit organizations from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources. Renters may borrow up to $40,000 to replace their personal property, including vehicles. The deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Tuesday, March 2, 2022.
