Disaster Recovery Centers and Mobile Registration Centers

Release Date:
Out 10, 2022

Disaster Recovery Centers

These are fixed structures that are jointly operated by FEMA and Kentucky Emergency Management.  Representatives from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and agencies from the Commonwealth are at the centers to help survivors with applications, questions, low-interest disaster loans and assistance from the Commonwealth.

FEMA financial assistance may include money for temporary housing, basic home repairs or other uninsured, disaster-related needs such as childcare, transportation and medical, funeral or dental expenses.

Survivors who receive an eligibility letter from FEMA can meet with FEMA personnel to discuss the letter and what information FEMA may need to continue processing the application.

Mobile Registration Centers

These are temporary mobile facilities in the affected counties. They have Disaster Survivor Assistance teams onsite to assist with FEMA applications and information about other resources. The mobile centers do not have capability to assist with eligibility appeals. Survivors should go to a Disaster Recovery Center for that help.

It is not necessary to go to either type of center to apply for FEMA assistance. Homeowners and renters in Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Perry, Pike, Owsley and Whitley counties can go online to www.disasterassistance.gov, call 800-621-3362 or use the FEMA mobile app. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service.
