Houston experiences frequent flooding. Homes located in the Special Flood Hazard Area experience repeat flooding.
Project Description
This project will elevate 27 homes two feet above the 500-year flood level for the purpose of mitigating flood risk per the City's Floodplain Ordinance - Freeboard for Properties Located in a Special Flood Hazard Area [SFHA]. After this project is complete, these homes will be more protected from flood-related damage.
City officials will work with each homeowner to select a qualified, experienced elevation contractor to complete the work in compliance with the structure-specific plans and specifications, applicable codes and standards, and minimum National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements. The space below the lowest floor, will be designed to allow for the entry and exit of floodwaters and finished by applications consistent with the city's floodplain and building codes, as well as the local homeowners' association rules or deed restrictions.
