Renters Can Apply for FEMA Assistance

Release Number:
005
Release Date:
June 18, 2025

FEMA Individual Assistance is available to renters, including students, as well as homeowners in Cleveland, Creek, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Pawnee and Payne counties with uninsured losses from the recent wildfires that occurred March 14-21.

FEMA grants can help pay for temporary housing. Renters may also qualify for financial help to replace essential personal property, medical and dental, transportation, childcare, moving and storage, and other uninsured expenses.

If renters applied with FEMA and received Displacement Assistance, and are still out of their homes, they should contact FEMA to discuss the need for Rental Assistance. Survivors do not need to receive Displacement Assistance to be eligible for Rental Assistance.

Displaced renters in Oklahoma may also be reimbursed for temporary housing costs related to the disaster that were made before the official May 21 declaration. For example, a renter who paid rent at an alternate housing site due to displacement in April and May can submit those receipts – as well as any security deposit they paid – for reimbursement.

Here are the ways to apply:

U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loans

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), FEMA’s federal partner in disaster recovery, may also be able to help. FEMA has streamlined the application process so people can apply to FEMA and SBA at the same time. Oklahoma residents can apply for a disaster loan online at SBA.gov/disasteror by calling 800-659-2955. SBA representatives are also available to provide one-on-one assistance to applicants at disaster loan outreach centers open throughout the affected area.
