Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: $183,240

Project Description

The town of Hilton Head Island will elevate a residential structure that has received two payments through the National Flood Insurance Program. The home experienced two mandatory evacuations in within a year and had two prior FEMA flood loss claims. To mitigate against future floods, and prevent the loss of property and possibly lives, this property will be elevated to the town’s flood elevation requirement.

Meeting this elevation requirement means the lowest floor and any service equipment must be elevated to a minimum of the design flood elevation plus 3 feet, or 13 feet above mean sea level, whichever is higher. Enclosures below the lowest floor can only be used for parking, building access and limited storage. They must also be properly flood vented. All construction materials below the minimum elevation requirement must be flood damage resistant.
