Salt Lake City, Utah: $36.68 Million

History

Utah is the fastest growing state in the country and had a population gain of 18.4% between 2010 and 2020. According to a recent Bloomberg article, the city’s demand for water will outpace supply by 2040. With over 99.9% of the state in a drought and the increase of intense storms at lower frequency, it’s more essential than ever that Utah and the greater Salt Lake City region deliver on water resilience.

Project Description

The City Creek Water Treatment Plant Resilient Water Quality and Supply project reduces risks and increases resilience by addressing existing structural deficiencies to improve facility performance during, and recovery after, a seismic or flood event. In combination with this, streambank restoration and other nature-based solutions like bioswales and raingardens will be incorporated into the project. These improvements will help to ensure continued delivery of high-quality drinking water and required fire flow (supply and pressure) for the service area. The City Creek Water Treatment Plan Project incorporates partnerships and engagement with key stakeholders.
