The Rapides Area Planning Commission will elevate properties to prevent future flooding.
Alexandria, Louisiana: $795,593
The Rapides Area Planning Commission will elevate flood-prone properties that have 29 Severe Repetitive Loss and Repetitive Loss paid claims to two feet above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE). Severe repetitive loss properties, repetitive loss properties, and socially vulnerable properties are the priority. The project also prioritizes properties in locations with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index scores of 0.5001 or higher. The home elevation will likely include tunneling and hydraulic systems.
Once the home has been elevated, temporary cribbing will be placed under the home to maintain the new elevation. Eventually, this temporary cribbing will be replaced with piles or pilings as per design standards. Utilities will be reconnected, and the contractor and building inspectors will ensure local and state building codes are met. Elevating these homes will mitigate the risk of flooding in the future. This project also will feature a rain harvesting system, which will collect and store rainfall for later use, at each property to manage rainwater where it falls to reduce stormwater runoff.
