JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Since the flooding and severe storms between April 28 and May 11, 2017, eligible Missouri households have received more than $90 million in assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
As of Aug. 15:
- FEMA approved $9.9 million in grants for eligible individuals and families in 35 counties for housing assistance, including emergency home repairs, replacement, and rental assistance
- FEMA approved $2.1 million in grants for replacement of essential personal property, and help with medical, dental, legal and other disaster-related expenses.
- NFIP paid $62 million to 1,148 policyholders, of which more than $19 million was paid before the June 2 disaster declaration. An additional 65 claims are still in process.
- $15.9 million in SBA low-interest disaster loans were approved to homeowners, renters and businesses.
- Twenty-six disaster recovery centers logged 1,930 visits by survivors for one-on-one counseling on available assistance, flood insurance, mitigation methods and disaster loans.
- FEMA mitigation specialists have provided free information, answered questions and offered tips at 45 hardware and home improvement stores across the state on how to repair and rebuild flood-damaged homes stronger and safer.
Survivors who registered for assistance with FEMA are encouraged to stay in touch with the agency. Survivors who change their address or phone number should notify FEMA. Although the deadline for registration for federal assistance was Aug. 14, survivors who registered with FEMA may still contact the agency for help.

The federal disaster declaration covers eligible losses caused by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding between April 28 and May 11, 2017 in these counties: Bollinger, Butler, Carter, Christian, Crawford, Dent, Douglas, Dunklin, Franklin, Gasconade, Greene, Howell, Iron, Jasper, Jefferson, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Ozark, Pemiscot, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis, Stone, Taney, Texas, Wayne and Wright.
