PHILADELPHIA - The following Commonwealth of Virginia communities have adopted new Flood Insurance Rate Maps and will remain in good standing with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
- Leesburg, Town of, Loudoun County.
- Loudoun County, Unincorporated Areas
- Lovettsville, Town of, Loudoun County
- Middleburg, Town of, Loudoun County
- Norfolk, City of, Independent City
- Purcellville, Town of, Loudoun County
- Round Hill, Town of, Loudoun County
Flood insurance is available in all communities participating in the NFIP.
These communities were notified via a Federal Register Notice that their community may be suspended from the NFIP effective February 17. 2017. [FR Doc. 2017-03211 Filed 2-16-17].
Publishing a Federal Register Notice is a regulatory requirement and a routine part of the map adoption process. The process of notifying communities of pending suspension began before receipt of required documentation from the Loudoun County, its communities, and the City of Norfolk.

The NFIP is a federally backed program administered by the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA), a part of The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). To be eligible for flood insurance through the program, a community must agree to enact an approved floodplain management program and enforce its floodplain management ordinances. This includes the adoption of Flood Insurance Rate Map.
