Publishing a Federal Register Notice is a regulatory requirement and a routine part of the map adoption process. The process of notifying communities of pending suspension began before receipt of required documentation from the Loudoun County, its communities, and the City of Norfolk.

A community or lender may check the status of the approximately 22,100 participating communities by checking our website at https://www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program-community-status-book.

The NFIP is a federally backed program administered by the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA), a part of The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). To be eligible for flood insurance through the program, a community must agree to enact an approved floodplain management program and enforce its floodplain management ordinances. This includes the adoption of Flood Insurance Rate Map.
