Since the federal disaster declaration for Tropical Storm Fred, Haywood County residents have received more than $7.7 million in federal funds as of Oct. 6, 2021:
- $1,893,146 in FEMA grants to homeowners and renters.
- $5.13 million in claims paid to National Flood Insurance Program policyholders.
- $695,900 in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans approved for homeowners, renters and businesses.
Individual Assistance in Haywood County:
- 345 homeowners and renters have been approved for $1,893,146 in federal grants through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program. This includes:
- $1,623,269 in Housing Assistance grants for home repair, home replacement, and/or rental assistance.
- $269,878 in Other Needs Assistance grants to replace essential household items and for other critical disaster-related costs.
- 193 homeowners and renters have been approved for rental assistance.
- 834 home inspections issued; 714 completed.
- Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) visited 880 households in Haywood County.
- A Document Drop-off Center operated in Canton until Oct. 2 to help survivors with registration, application updates and referrals.
- Two FEMA mobile units operated in Canton Sept. 18-24 to help survivors with registration, application updates and referrals.

IA Assistance in Canton:
- 295 homeowners and renters have been approved for $1,682,259 in federal grants through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program. This includes:
- $1,454,905 in Housing Assistance grants for home repair, home replacement, and/or rental assistance.
- $227,353 in Other Needs Assistance grants to replace essential household items and for other critical disaster-related costs.
- 157 homeowners and renters have been approved for rental assistance. ·

IA Assistance in Clyde:
- 41 homeowners and renters have been approved for $189,801 in federal grants through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program. This includes:
- $148,193 in Housing Assistance grants for home repair, home replacement, and/or rental assistance.
- $41,608 in Other Needs Assistance grants to replace essential household items and for other critical disaster-related costs.
- 32 homeowners and renters have been approved for rental assistance. ·
U.S. Small Business Administration:
- SBA is operating a Business Recovery Center at Haywood Community College Regional High-Tech Center, 112 Industrial Park Drive, Room 3021, Waynesville, N.C. 28786. Hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday. SBA has approved $695,900 in low-interest disaster loans to 23 applicants.
National Flood Insurance Program:
- NFIP has paid $5.13 million to policyholders who filed claims.
Public Assistance:
- Haywood County was approved for assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures and permanent work Sept. 8, 2021.
- To date, 9 Requests for Public Assistance (RPAs) have been received and 5 approved; 4 pending.
