Federal funding is now available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures, including Direct Federal Assistance to Hinds County.
The City of Jackson and all local governments within Hinds County are eligible to apply for assistance.
FEMA is authorized to assign missions to other federal agencies based on Mississippi’s request when the state or local governments can’t perform or contract for the work.
This assistance may include technical assistance to review and assess the water treatment facility and/or help distributing commodities.
FEMA provides 75% federal funding for these emergency measures taken to save lives and protect property and public health. The remaining 25% comes from non-federal sources.
This declaration differs from a major disaster declaration, which provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and repair of public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work.
