FEMA has approved more than $1.93 million in additional Public Assistance funding to Mountain Parks Electric for repairs to portions of the power cooperative’s electrical distribution system that were damaged by the East Troublesome Wildfire. The assistance was made available under a major disaster declaration issued January 15, 2021.

DENVER – FEMA has awarded $2.6 million to the State of Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control to cover assistance costs for 143 state and local cooperating agencies and the Colorado National Guard while fighting the Cameron Peak wildfire in Larimer County. The funds are provided from the agency’s Public Assistance program under the major disaster declaration for Colorado issued on January 15, 2021, following the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome wildfires.

DENVER – FEMA has approved $3.07 million in federal funds to remove hazardous trees and wildfire debris along public roads in Larimer County as part of the recovery effort from the Cameron Peak Fire.  The funds are provided from the agency’s Public Assistance program under the major disaster declaration for Colorado issued on January 15, 2021 following the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome wildfires.

DENVER – In response to Colorado’s devastating wildfires in 2020, FEMA and the State of Colorado are hosting a series of webinars to help residents understand increased threats to their homes, lives and property following the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires and prepare for the upcoming wildfire season. 

Discussion topics will include wildfire preparation and recovery, increased flood risk, agricultural recovery and understanding insurance options. Panelists will answer questions and provide informative resources to help residents with their recovery.

Large-scale wildfires dramatically alter the terrain and ground conditions. Normally, vegetation absorbs rainfall, reducing runoff. However, wildfires leave the ground charred, barren, and unable to absorb water, creating conditions ripe for flash flooding and mudflow.
