Faga’alu Village, American Samoa: $10.35 million

Project Description

American Samoa is a paradise that often endures tropical storms, cyclones and hurricanes. In 2009, American Samoa was devastated by the effects of a tsunami caused by an earthquake in Chile. The recent eruption of the Tonga volcano has led the island to seek mitigation strategies. The Faga’alu Shoreline Protection project will address erosion along the shoreline parallel to Route 001, the main route which goes to the local hospital. Construction will include rock foundation, concrete rubble masonry, and/or tribar armor units for the slope. It will also include concrete steps at sections along the revetment as access down to the ocean shore.
