SAIPAN, MP — The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Saipan will be closed on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 for the election. The DRC will reopen for normal hours of operation from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on November 14 and November 15, 2018.
On November 16, 2018, the DRC will relocate to the Multi-Purpose Center off of Tekken Street in Susupe.
A DRC provides residents an opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from the Commonwealth, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to answer questions about temporary housing, home repairs, replacement of damaged personal property, home and business recovery funding, and other disaster-related needs.
Survivors who are insured, uninsured, or underinsured are encouraged to register with FEMA. FEMA grants may be used to replace destroyed essential items. FEMA grants and SBA loans may be able to help cover survivors’ uninsured or underinsured damaged property. If an applicant is insured, s/he is strongly encouraged to first file a claim with their insurance company, and then register for disaster assistance with FEMA. If applicants are referred to SBA for a loan application, it is very important that they follow through.
Eligible applicants can register for assistance by calling: (800) 621-3362, or applying online at: disasterassistance.gov. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired. Survivors who are unable to register for assistance before visiting a DRC are welcome to use the center’s phone banks and computers.
