SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Today, FEMA expanded the leadership team overseeing Puerto Rico recovery efforts following the unprecedented destruction caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

FEMA is beginning to look toward the long-term recovery needs of both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  As a part of this effort, Mike Byrne will assume the role of federal coordinating officer for Puerto Rico.  Caribbean Area Division Director Alejandro De La Campa will continue to serve as the senior governmental liaison, providing open lines of communication with the Governor of Puerto Rico and the 78 municipal leaders.  While Byrne will oversee the current operational needs, De La Campa will focus on working with the mayors and their long-term recovery needs.

De La Campa will work closely with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to maintain the lasting relationships he established as the Caribbean Area Division director.
