    Survivor Stories: NFIP policyholders affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Matthew

    Following the devastating 2016 and 2017 hurricane seasons, we followed four NFIP policyholders who experienced flood damage during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, or Matthew and are rebuilding safer and stronger with the funds from their NFIP claims. The Survivor Stories series reflects the range of backgrounds and life experiences of NFIP policyholders—from a young family to a retiree—but collectively, they demonstrate the positive impact of flood insurance and the peace of mind that comes with protecting your family and home.

    DR-4344 California Wildfires

    The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of California to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by wildfires from October 8, 2017 and continuing.

    Region IX

    FEMA Region 9’s area of responsibility includes: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Republic of Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and more than 150 sovereign tribal entities. Region 9 serves a culturally diverse population in excess of 47 million people and covers 399,000 square miles with a breadth of more than 8,000 miles. The Region's most common challenges are hurricanes, typhoons and other storms that can cause flooding, flash-flooding, and landslides throughout the region. The Region also experiences earthquakes and wildfires.
