PHILADELPHIA – As the whole-of America response to COVID-19 continues, FEMA Region 3 is working with all partners to bring much needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) into the region. Over the weekend, in coordination with the Department of State and Department of Defense, FEMA received a donation of PPE from the Republic of Turkey containing several high-demand items.
The donation was flown to the United States via the U.S. Air Force and landed at Andrews Airforce Base in two shipments on Wednesday, April 29, and Saturday, May 2. The supplies were then shipped to FEMA Region 3’s warehouse and were inventoried over the weekend. FEMA staff quickly worked to unload all the supplies and build packages to push to the mid-Atlantic states. The donation included face shields (500), goggles (1500), N95 (400), surgical masks (497,500), and coveralls (69,330).
“The response to COVID-19 has been unprecedented. Every day, we are working with all partners to ensure our healthcare workers, first responders, and essential personal working on the frontlines have the protective equipment needed to stay safe,” said MaryAnn Tierney, FEMA Region 3 Regional Administrator. “We are grateful for the donations from Turkey, as they will provide additional PPE to the hardest-impacted areas in the mid-Atlantic.”
The supplies from this donation will be pushed across the entire mid-Atlantic region, including Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. For more on this shipment, visit https://www.fema.gov/media-library/multimedia/collections/756
In response to COVID-19, FEMA Region 3 opened a warehouse in the mid-Atlantic region to receive and process supplies and resources. FEMA has 15 staff directly supporting this effort to move PPE out to the areas where there is a critical need as quickly as possible. The warehouse will continue operations through the summer and fall to provide direct support to the mid-Atlantic region in response to COVID-19.
FEMA, through the Supply Chain Stabilization Task Force is executing a whole-of-America approach to address limited supply of critical protective and life-saving equipment. Through a four-pronged approach of Preservation, Acceleration, Expansion and Allocation, FEMA is bringing the full capacity of the federal government to bear in order to find solutions to protect the American people and defeat COVID-19.
