National Floodplain Administrator Training Needs Assessment Survey
FEMA manages the National Flood Insurance Program which includes more than 22,600 Participating Communities. This year, FEMA’s Floodplain Management Division is conducting a survey of the nation’s Floodplain Administrators who manage local floodplains for these jurisdictions. Survey findings will inform a five-year National Floodplain Administrators Training Strategy that will be coordinated by the Floodplain Management Division.

The application period is now open for free Heritage Emergency and Response Training (HEART). This competitive application is open to participants from cultural heritage and first responder/emergency management organizations or agencies in the United States, U.S. territories, or Indian Country.

National Flood Insurance Post-Wildfire 30-Day Exception

Large-scale wildfires dramatically alter the terrain and ground conditions. Normally, vegetation absorbs rainfall, reducing runoff. However, wildfires leave the ground charred, barren, and unable to absorb water, creating conditions ripe for flash flooding and mudflow.

Disaster Legal Services (DLS) is a free service, funded by FEMA and available to southern New Mexico residents impacted by the South Fork and Salt Fires and flooding that began June 17 through Aug. 20. If you are in need of legal services and you live in Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba or San Juan Counties or the Mescalero Apache Reservation, DLS may be able to help.
