In this update of the AEL, categories and items received minor, administrative modifications to titles and descriptions to align with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard names.

The following category names were updated to align with NFPA standard names:

  • EM - NFPA 1950 (1999) Protective Clothing (Emergency Medical Services)
  • PF - NFPA 1970 (1971) Ensembles (Proximity Fire Fighting)
  • SF - NFPA 1970 (1971) Ensembles (Structural Fire Fighting)
  • SL - NFPA 1970 (1971) Ensembles (Structural Fire Fighting with Optional Particulate and Liquid Protection)
  • SW - NFPA 1955 (1952) Surface Water Operations Protective Clothing and Equipment
  • UC - NFPA 1950 (1951) CBRN Technical Rescue Protective Ensemble

In this update of the AEL, items were added, removed, and modified to reflect changes to technology and standards, to clarify or address gaps in the types of equipment listed in the AEL, and to update the FEMA related grant programs.
