Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC)

The *{color:#4c9aff}Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC){color}* is an economic development partnership agency of the federal and 13 state governments focusing on 423 counties across Appalachia.  Its mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth to achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation.

ARC uses Congressionally appropriated funds to invest in the Region's economic and community development:  through grants - beginning at the state government level to reflect state strategic plans and strategies - and via Business Development Revolving Loan Funds to help the Region's smaller businesses access capital.

Current initiatives include:
* {color:#4c9aff}Area Development Program{color} (infrastructure, business, and workforce development;
* {color:#4c9aff}3-1 Visa Waiver Program{color} (for foreign physicians);
* {color:#4c9aff}INSPIRE Initiative{color} (substance abuse recovery and workforce entry);
* {color:#4c9aff}POWER Initiative{color} (to address job losses associated with coal mining; and the
* {color:#4c9aff}WORC Initiative {color}(workforce development). 

Critical infrastructure investments mainly include water and wastewater systems, transportation networks, broadband, and other projects anchoring regional economic development.  Business and workforce investments primarily focus on entrepreneurship, worker training and education, food systems, leadership, and other human capital development.
