FEMA is seeking public feedback on the Hermit’s Peak Fire Assistance Act. The Act provides $2.5 billion to compensate New Mexicans impacted by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.


FEMA is hosting a public meeting on Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Regulations at Mora High School in Mora, New Mexico.


FEMA will host a virtual government-to-government consultation with the Tribal Nations that have been impacted by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire and whose tribal entities, tribal corporations, or tribal members have been impacted by the fire(s).

Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Public Comment Period

Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire conducted a public comments period and tribal consultations from Nov. 14, 2022, through Jan 13, 2023, to help guide the claims process and describe necessary documentation, evaluation criteria, available funding, and provide for appeal rights, arbitration and judicial review. Comments were also collected through the Federal Register Notice.

Six public meetings were held in the most heavily impacted communities to collect public comments. The meeting transcripts are below.
