FEMA Awards Nearly $1M to Michigan Community Impacted by 2020 Dam Failure

Through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $931,930 to the village of Sanford, Michigan, for the acquisition and demolition of 14 homes that were damaged following the Midland dam break in May 2020.

FEMA Provides $4 Million to Northwood University

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division announced today that $4,043,286 in federal funding has been made available to Northwood University for costs related to the state’s response to the severe storm and flooding event under the federal disaster declaration of July 9, 2020.

September 30 is Last Day to Apply for Federal Assistance

MIDLAND, Mich. –– Mid-Michigan survivors of the May 16-22 severe storms and flooding have just one day left to register for disaster assistance with FEMA and apply for a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loan.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, to be considered for assistance.

Registration and disaster information is still available by calling the FEMA helpline, going online or using the FEMA mobile app, as follows:
