PHILADELPHIA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided more than $4 billion to Region 3 states and the District of Columbia for costs related to saving lives and protecting the public from COVID-19. In addition to Washington, DC, Region 3 includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Funds were distributed among local partners, state partners, school districts, other public entities, and certain private nonprofits.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region 3 has provided more than $3 billion to local and state agencies, school districts, nonprofits and other public entities in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia for costs related to saving lives and protecting people during the COVID-19 mission.

FEMA has amended the agency’s COVID-19 funeral assistance policy to assist with COVID-19 related fatalities that occurred in the early months of the pandemic. This policy change will allow applicants to submit a statement or letter from the death certificate’s certifying official, medical examiner, or coroner that attributes the death to COVID-19 fatalities that occurred between Jan. 20 and May 16, 2020.

Norfolk, Virginia — FEMA will be departing from the Military Circle Mall Community Vaccination Center site on May 22, 2021 and handing operations over to the Virginia Department of Health. Since the center has opened the vaccination team has administered more than 80,000 doses of vaccine. One of the most important goals of the Military Circle Mall Community Vaccination Center was to help vaccinate the underserved and the most vulnerable communities of Hampton Roads. These communities have received more than 50% of the doses that have been administered by the Military Circle Mall Community Vaccination Center.
