REGION 1 – The State of Rhode Island received a grant totaling more than $64 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for costs associated with COVID-19 vaccine distribution efforts. Since January of 2020, COVID-19 has created an immediate threat to the health and safety of the general public requiring emergency response and protective measures.

REGION 1 – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $3,055,957 to the Rhode Island Department of Health to help reimburse eligible expenses which incurred as a result of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grant funds, awarded by FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program, were made available to cover various expenses for the Office of the State Medical Examiner and COVID-19 positive nursing homes.

REGION I –Rhode Island will receive $21,703,368 from FEMA to reimburse costs incurred by Rhode Island Department of Administration for construction of three alternative hospital sites to ensure hospital capacity in the wake of COVID-19.

REGION I –Rhode Island will receive $11,930,317 from the FEMA for costs incurred by Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) for supplies and materials through September 30 due to COVID-19.

REGION I –Rhode Island will receive $1,270,094 from FEMA for five sheltering programs set up by the Rhode Island Department of Administration in response to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.  The programs included sheltering for frontline workers, quarantining and isolation for adults who had either tested positive or been exposed to COVID-19, and non-congregate sheltering for segments of the homeless population and individuals typically in congregate care settings.
