The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has allocated over $3.3 million to the municipalities of Barranquitas and Vega Baja to repair several recreational facilities that will benefit communities and visitors. These allocations for damage following Hurricane María are aimed at addressing what are known as alternate projects. Alternate projects under Public Assistance take place when a community benefits from a different project, as opposed to restoring the project to its original pre-disaster state.

San Juan, Puerto Rico – With its theatrical performances and music events for residents and visitors, Los Fundadores Public Square in the Municipality of Santa Isabel represents one of the most important meeting places of the town. This is one of several plazas to which the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted funds to boost the economic and social development of the area.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded nearly $1.9 million for two projects aimed at the Camuy River Caves National Park for damage after Hurricane María. The funds allocated to the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) will repair its administrative facilities and part of the cave systems; and will address measures to mitigate risks following future atmospheric events.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated nearly $670,000 to replace equipment for the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture’s (PRDA) Veterinary and Agrological Laboratory, due to damage after Hurricane María. The facility performs all tests and certification of animals exported and imported into Puerto Rico to ensure that they are free of disease.

Residents of the municipality of Coamo and its visitors will soon be able to enjoy the renovated facilities of the historic Los Baños Hotel and Inn, following an allocation of nearly $3.6 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to repair damage after Hurricane María.
