PrepTalks: Amanda Ripley "The Unthinkable: Lessons from Survivors"

Release Date

Symposium date: January 29, 2018

In her PrepTalk, Amanda Ripley combines the inspiring stories of disaster survivors with research into how the brain works when confronted with unusual events. She explains that unless we have had the experience and/or the training to help us act quickly during moments of great peril, our instinctive response may be the worst possible reaction.

Amanda Ripley is a journalist and senior fellow at the Emerson Collective. She has written feature stories about disasters, education and human behavior for Time magazine, The Atlantic, Politico, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Times of London.  Her first book, The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes—and Why, was described by NPR as “the thinking person’s manual for getting out alive.”
