FEMA Assistance for Home Infrastructure Damage
Insurance doesn’t typically cover wells, septic systems and privately owned access roads.
If you had infrastructure damage after the Nov. 30 Alaska earthquake and did not have a FEMA inspection, call the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or visit a disaster recovery center to request an inspection. For more information, visit https://go.usa.gov/xmTWa.
FEMA May Help with Earthquake-Related Foundation Damage
Additional FEMA funding may be available to eligible homeowners who had damage to their foundations as a result of the Nov. 30 earthquake.
If you have applied for FEMA assistance and received a determination letter you disagree with, you must submit, in writing, a letter explaining the reason for the appeal. Appeals should be submitted within 60 days of the date on your FEMA decision letter. For appeals submitted after the 60-day mark, include your reason for the delay.
An appeal letter for foundation damage should be accompanied by a written contractor’s estimate. Case workers will contact the contractor to verify the estimate. If any document is missing, FEMA will send you a letter requesting the information. To date, more than 185 families have submitted that documentation and received additional funding specifically for foundation repair.
To find out more about the appeals process, download “Help After a Disaster” at go.usa.gov/xmaRK.
Homeowners can also visit a disaster recovery center to chat with a FEMA representative.
