Every Disaster Survivor Has Equal Access to Registration, Information and Assistance

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – All Missouri survivors who sustained property damage or loss caused by flooding and severe storms between April 28 and May 11, 2017 may apply for help at local disaster recovery centers.

Survivors in Bollinger, Butler, Carter, Douglas, Dunklin, Franklin, Gasconade, Howell, Jasper, Jefferson, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Ozark, Pemiscot, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, St. Louis, Stone, Taney, and Texas counties are eligible to apply for disaster assistance that may include money to help pay for temporary housing, emergency home repairs or other disaster-related expenses.

Missouri’s State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are committed to ensuring services and assistance are available for people with disabilities or others with access and functional needs. Survivors who need an accommodation or assistance due to a disability should notify FEMA staff at the time of registration or anytime throughout the assistance process.

All FEMA disaster recovery centers are equally accessible to people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs, and the centers provide assistance tools. Locations of recovery centers may be found online at https://recovery.mo.gov/ or www.fema.gov/DRC.

  • Recovery centers offer effective communication options including: captioned phones, iPads with video remote interpreting; American Sign Language interpreters upon request; amplified telephones and listening devices for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss; phones that display text; and magnifiers for people with vision loss.
  • FEMA documents are available in Braille, large print and other formats upon request
