PONCE, Puerto Rico – In the ongoing effort to reach the whole community, FEMA is offering sign language interpreters for disaster assistance information, programs and applications.

FEMA offers teams of disability integration specialists and advisers who ensure that recovery assistance is accessible and inclusive.

Disaster Recovery Centers are equipped with accessibility kits to ensure that all people have full access to FEMA information and assistance programs.

For those with limited English proficiency, FEMA provides multilingual operators, literature in multiple languages and interpreters in the field.

Sign language interpreters are available at 14 Disaster Recovery Centers on an alternating schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. See the two tables below for the schedule.

Survivors can visit any Disaster Recovery Center to meet FEMA staff face-to-face and get help.

If someone wants to schedule a sign language interpreter in a specific Disaster Recovery Center at a time that sign language interpreters are not scheduled to be there, call or text FEMA’s Sign Language Interpreter Request Line, 202-372-7717.
