Northridge, Calif., January 17, 1994 -- Volunteer assistance was received from volunteer organizations including the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. Approximately 114,000 residential and commercial structures were damaged and 72 deaths were attributed to the earthquake. Damage costs were estimated at $25 billion.
