FEMA helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from the risks that come from hurricanes, high winds and storm surges.

Hurricane Planning and Response

The National Hurricane Program provides data, resources and technical assistance for hurricane evacuation planning and response for state, local, tribal, territorial and federal government partners. Hurricane evacuation and response planning efforts span from steady-state deliberate planning to operational decision support and crisis planning when hurricanes threaten the United States.

National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program

The National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program works to reduce losses from windstorms through a coordinated federal effort. FEMA supports the program by assisting with the development of risk assessment tools and mitigation techniques, data collection and analysis, and public outreach and information dissemination.
