Flooding is the most costly and common natural disaster in the United States. It is important for property owners to understand their flood risk and how it may be changing with the release of a new flood insurance rate map (FIRM).

Preliminary flood maps for our community have been developed from the best available data obtained using new technology and recent studies. Updated maps provide our community with more accurate and reliable flood information so we may better manage flood risk.

Representatives from FEMA, the North Dakota Department of Water Resources contracting team, City of Bismarck, and Burleigh County, will be in attendance to meet with community members. No formal presentations will be made, and no appointment is necessary.

This open house will allow members of the public to view the preliminary maps, offer comments, and ask questions regarding the maps, community floodplain management, and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

If you have a copy of an elevation certificate, flood insurance policy, or letter of map change document associated with your property, please bring that documentation to the open house to help staff provide you with the best information available about your property.

If you are unable to attend the open house in person, the preliminary mapping products are viewable at: https://hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload/searchLoad.action

You may also attend virtually at:
