FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in San Sebastián Closing, Help Still Available

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – The disaster recovery center in San Sebastián will cease operations at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.

Disaster recovery centers are operated jointly by FEMA and the Government of Puerto Rico.

After a center ceases operations, disaster survivors whose homes or businesses were affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria can still get updates about applications, learn about the appeals process or check the status of their claim the following ways:

  • Log into their account at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-FEMA(3362). People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585. Toll-free numbers are open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Since October 2017, 68 disaster recovery centers were opened across the island, and 800,000 survivors received help. FEMA and the Government of Puerto Rico are consolidating centers and increasing disaster assistance resources as the emergency response moves into the recovery phase.

Recovery officials encourage Irma and Maria survivors who registered for disaster assistance with FEMA to stay in touch. If survivors change addresses or phone numbers they should contact FEMA to update their information. Missing or incorrect information could result in delays in receiving assistance.
