Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Peñuelas

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – A disaster recovery center is opening in Peñuelas on Saturday, March 24 to help those whose homes or businesses were affected by hurricanes Irma and María.

Location:        Centro de Convenciones Sala 1

Peñuelas, PR  00624

The recovery center’s operating hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following days:

  • Saturday, March 24
  • Monday, March 26 through Thursday, March 29

The recovery center will cease operations at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 29.

Disaster recovery centers are operated jointly by the government of Puerto Rico and FEMA. Many of the same services at disaster recovery centers are also available by calling the FEMA Helpline.

After the center closes, disaster survivors whose homes or businesses were affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria can still register for assistance, get updates about applications, learn about the appeals process or check the status of their claim the following ways:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-FEMA (3362). Persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585. Toll-free numbers are open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Survivors can visit any disaster recovery center. To find the closest center, call the FEMA helpline or visit FEMA.gov/DRC.

Recovery officials encourage Irma and Maria survivors who registered for disaster assistance with FEMA to stay in touch. If survivors change addresses or phone numbers they should contact FEMA to update their information. Missing or erroneous information could result in delays in receiving assistance.
