CBRN Air-Purifying Escape Respirator (APER) designed for escape from hazardous environments, including carbon monoxide (certified by NIOSH as compliant with the CBRN approval criteria).

DHS has adopted the NIOSH Standard for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Air-Purifying Escape Respirator (APER) and CBRN Self-Contained Escape Respirator (SCER) Only APERs certfied by NIOSH as compliant with this standard are allowable.
