Washington, DC - Federal assistance has been made available by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help Virginia battle an outbreak of wildfires in the southwestern part of the state. FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh approved the state's request for federal fire management assistance after it was reported late last week that the Far Southwest Fire Complex had consumed over 17,000 acres and was threatening more than 800 homes in the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson and Scott.
