DENTON, Texas -- Residents and business owners in Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St, Charles, St. Tammany and Terrebonne parishes, who sustained damage from Hurricane Ivan in September, have only one more week to apply for disaster assistance. November 15, 2004 is the last day applications will be accepted. That is also the deadline for submitting loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property.

October 18, 2004 - News Release

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Buras, opened on September 19 to assist victims of Hurricane Ivan, will close permanently on Thursday, October 21, at 6 p.m. More than 2100 individuals have visited the center. "Help is still as close as a phone call," said Sandy Coachman, Federal Coordinating Officer. "The closing of the Disaster Recovery Centers does not in any way affect the services being provided to disaster victims."

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
