Washington, DC -- Officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) who administer the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are urging Louisiana property owners who purchased flood insurance in the wake of Tropical Storm Allison to be sure to renew their policies and not be fooled into thinking such a devastating disaster can't happen again.

Baton Rouge, LA -- Louisiana disaster victims who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance have only one more week to apply. September 21 is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials. Homeowners, renters, farmers, agricultural producers and business owners who sustained damage between June 5 and June 22 from Tropical Storm Allison are encouraged to apply. Baton Rouge, LA -- Monday, September 10, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will change the hours of operation of its toll-free registration and Helpline numbers. Services will be available Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sunday. All Louisiana homeowners, renters, farmers and business owners who sustained damage between June 5 through June 22, as result of Tropical Storm Allison, should register with FEMA for disaster assistance, by calling 1-800-462-9029. The TTY number for hearing- or speech-impaired is 1-800-462-7585.

Baton Rouge, LA -- The last day to register for federal disaster assistance is Friday, September 21, 2001. Residents of Louisiana who suffered damage from Tropical Storm Allison between June 5 and 22 must register before that day for federal disaster assistance programs. Federal assistance programs are available for help with damages suffered only during that tropical storm, June 5 through June 22. Damages caused by recent heavy rains in southern Louisiana do not qualify under the current disaster declaration.
