DANBURY, Conn. -- Federal, state and local officials have worked together for the past month with the shared goal of helping Connecticut recover from the high winds, heavy rains and flooding brought by Tropical Storm Floyd. "Since the September 23 declaration," Federal Coordinating Officer Sharon L. Stoffel said, " $1,165,473 in disaster assistance has been approved to help state residents and business owners in Fairfield, Hartford and Litchfield counties in their recovery."

DANBURY, Conn. -- A special Disaster Legal Services program has been activated as a result of the high winds, heavy rains and flooding from Tropical Storm Floyd. The program provides free legal assistance to Connecticut residents in the declared counties who cannot afford legal counsel for their disaster-related legal problems. The counties are Hartford, Fairfield and Litchfield.

DANBURY, Conn. -- Federal disaster funds have been made available to help state and local government agencies and certain qualifying nonprofit organizations in Fairfield and Hartford counties recover from the effects of Tropical Storm Floyd, it was announced today. "This means they are now eligible to apply for federal aid to fund 75 percent of the costs of debris removal and the repair or replacement of their storm-damaged public facilities," Federal Coordinating Officer Sharon L. Stoffel said.

"As a result," Federal Coordinating Officer Sharon L. Stoffel said, "three weeks after the September 23 disaster declaration, nearly $700,000 in storm aid has been approved for residents and businesses with storm-related losses and damage."

DANBURY, Conn. -- Litchfield County has been added to the list of Connecticut counties eligible for federal disaster assistance following Tropical Storm Floyd.  Federal Coordinating Officer Sharon L.Stoffel said the addition was made following a review of information regarding damages incurred to private property from the high winds, heavy rains and flooding generated by Floyd, September 15 through 21.

DANBURY, Conn. -- Weeks after Tropical Storm Floyd hit the State of Connecticut, people are still cleaning up and beginning to ask:  "What about next time?" The rebuild and repair phase of a disaster is the ideal time to consider methods of reducing future damage.  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials call such action hazard mitigation.
