CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Wednesday September 15, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will change the hours and days of operation of its toll-free registration and Helpline numbers. Services will be available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. All Iowa homeowners, renters, farmers and business owners who sustained damage as result of the severe storms and flooding that began on July 2, regardless of where they live, should register with FEMA for disaster assistance, by calling 1-800-462-9029. The TTY number for hearing- or speech-impaired is 1-800-462-7585.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- September 20, 1999 is the deadline for applying for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) for people who are out of work due to storms and flooding that struck the state in July and early August, state and federal officials have announced. This deadline affects residents of Harrison and Mills counties only. Individuals must apply during the open application period, even if they do not expect to receive benefits immediately.
