Investigations conducted by FEMA and other organizations after major coastal disasters have consistently shown that properly sited, well-designed, and well-constructed coastal residential buildings generally perform well. This updated Coastal Construction Manual – prepared by FEMA with assistance from other agencies, organizations, and professionals involved in coastal construction and regulation – is intended to help designers and contractors identify and evaluate practices that will improve the quality of construction in coastal areas and reduce the economic losses associated with coastal disasters.
