MERRIMACK, N.H. - Approximately one month after the presidential disaster declaration, more than $2.7 million in state and federal disaster aid has been approved to help the residents and business owners in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts recover from losses resulting from the severe storms and flooding on October.

December 8, 2005 - News Release

MERRIMACK, N.H. - Due to the upcoming expected snowfall, Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC)s in Brockton and Worcester will discontinue operations today, not at 5 p.m. on Friday December 9, as originally scheduled, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. The Brockton DRC will close at 5 p.m. and the Worcester DRC will close at 6 p.m. today.

December 7, 2005 - News Release

MERRIMACK, N.H. -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC)s in Brockton and Worcester will discontinue operations at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 9, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. At the centers disaster recovery specialists from FEMA, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) explain assistance programs and answer questions from area residents who suffered losses in October’s flooding.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
