August 8, 2014 - News Release

ATLANTA—Ten years ago, Hurricane Charley’s arrival on the Florida shore kicked off an unusual string of four devastating hurricanes that hit the state within seven weeks. Florida was the first state to be struck by four hurricanes in one season since Texas in 1886.

August 3, 2009 - News Release

4 Hurricane Charley was a Category 4 storm when it made landfall near Punta Gorda on August 13, 2004. It claimed the title of the fifth costliest storm in U.S. history, according to the Insurance Information Institute. 15

December 27, 2006 - News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. -- At the request of the State of Florida, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Preliminary Damage Assessment Team (PDA) members were deployed at 8 a.m. today to Volusia and Pasco Counties which were struck by tornados on Christmas Day. FEMA received the request Dec. 26 shortly after 5 p.m.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
