Bryce Ludikhuize
Youth Preparedness Council

Region 8 – Wyoming

After his house burned down in the Tubbs fire in northern California in 2017, Bryce wanted to help others be prepared to face the emotional, financial, and physical damage caused by disasters. Now a 9th grade student living in Wyoming, Bryce especially wants to help people with disabilities learn about preparedness.

His father is the emergency management coordinator for his county, which has inspired Bryce to gain skills in disaster preparedness. Bryce has set up emergency preparedness booths in his community and taken preparedness classes on his own. These classes include National Weather Service SKYWARN storm spotter training and Salvation Army mobile shelter camp training. He’s used the training to help educate his peers on preparedness and how to tell if a tornado is forming. As a member of his school’s honor association, Bryce has helped fill sandbags for the community and volunteer with clothing drives. In 2022, he volunteered with his church to help a community in Colorado by cleaning baseball fields and assisting the elderly.

In his free time, Bryce likes to hunt, fish, and participate in church events. He has four dogs, one of which is trained in explosives detection for his county.
