Fishery Disaster Assistance

The Secretary of Commerce makes sums available to declared fishery disaster subject to appropriation of funds by Congress. The recipient(s) of the funding, in partnership with NOAA Fisheries, develops a spending plan based on high priority needs in the affected fishing community.

A state governor or an elected or duly appointed representative of an affected fishing community can request a fishery disaster determination from the Secretary of Commerce. This website explains how to obtain a declaration to be eligible for funding.
