Dear Tribal Leader:
Allow me to convey my sincere thanks and appreciation for your partnership and contribution to the development of the first “2022-2026 FEMA National Tribal Strategy." This is a proud moment that I am honored to share with you as, together, we have reached a significant milestone in improving nation-to-nation relationships between FEMA and Tribal Nations.
The National Tribal Strategy recognizes the importance of our partnership and delivers on Tribal Nations’ highest priorities that have been shared with us over the years. It also closely aligns with FEMA’s Strategic Plan goals to instill equity as a foundation of emergency management, lead whole of community in climate resilience, and promote and sustain a ready FEMA and prepared nation. It was incredibly important to us that the strategy development process was inclusive and reflective of the Tribal Nations we serve. With your help, and through 14 feedback sessions with tribal officials, we integrated direct feedback from participants regarding a greater need for financial support, increased engagement, and more education on FEMA resources and programs.
I am also pleased to announce the new FEMA Tribal Affairs Work Group. This internal initiative will advance all tribal priorities embodied within the three goals of the National Tribal Strategy, foster stronger collaboration and information sharing across all FEMA programs, and take our tribal engagement to the next level.
Again, thank you for your partnership and contribution that led to the success of this effort. All of us at FEMA deeply value the time and effort you dedicated to making the National Tribal Strategy a reality. Through your work, you are helping us become the FEMA Tribal Nations need and deserve.
