Healdsburg: $6.07 Million

History

Healdsburg is situated in prime California Wine Country and features some of the nation’s most decorated vineyards. The Russian River is the water source for its main economic driver, agriculture. Due to its wine production and proximity to major metropolitan areas, the town also has a healthy amount of tourism, however, drought conditions are impacting the community and industries.

Project Description

To preserve drinking water quality and quantity, the city of Healdsburg will use a nature-based solutions approach and construct three groundwater wells that are fully equipped to do aquifer storage and recharge. The wells will allow water to be stored during periods of abundance and used during periods of drought. The city anticipates storing approximately 485 acre-feet of water in the three wells.

The city will partner with project supporters including the Russian River Watershed Association, the Russian Riverkeeper and Sonoma Water to conduct outreach with the public and stakeholders to keep well users in the area aware of the project.
