Volunteers Rebuild Flooded Inner Yukon Village

In late May 2013, Galena, a small village of the Alaska interior, was left devastated by some of the worst Yukon River flooding in years. Floodwaters had inundated many homes, while missiles of river ice, known in Alaska as “ballistic ice,” had driven others hundreds of feet from their foundations. Debris and enormous chunks of ice littered the streets.Travel with Emergency Managers to the rebuilding sites of homes being constructed by volunteers from the lower 48.
