Megan Cameron

Megan Cameron
Youth Preparedness Council

Region 2 - New York

Megan is a recent high school graduate from New York and returns for her second year on the YPC. Her interest in preparedness is rooted in her passion for animal care and financial resilience. As a member of the FEMA Region 2 YPC, Megan has partnered with her local ASPCA animal shelter to create and deliver pet preparedness training programs and has collaborated with her peers to develop preparedness curricula for high school seniors and incoming college students.

During her first year on the national YPC, Megan co-led a team that created a blog exploring emergency management career options through a series of interviews with professionals in the field. She also played a key role in organizing the joint virtual YPC summit for FEMA Regions 1 and 2 in 2020. In addition to her work on the YPC, Megan assisted with an interagency mass casualty exercise at the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned the Commander’s coin for her exceptional service.

Megan is a competitive swimmer and volunteer swim instructor. She aims to combine her swimming background and prior FEMA experience to raise awareness about water safety during natural disasters by partnering with stakeholders like the American Red Cross. As a member of the YPC, she hopes to help reduce the high number of nationwide drownings that occur during disasters like hurricanes and flash floods by building a joint program that combines swim lessons, disaster preparedness, and water safety skills.
