FEMA In Your Community: CSEPP Exercise Allows Pueblo Area Chance to Test Response Capabilities

Nearly 2000 people from more than 30 local, state and federal agencies participated in the Colorado Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness annual exercise on May 2, 2018.  This large drill tested participants’ response capabilities and ability to coordinate their responses to multiple incidents.

The exercise scenario involved several simulated events including a chemical accident at the Pueblo Chemical Depot, evacuation of the Boone community due to flooding, a bus crash of evacuees, and a simulated HAZMAT and evacuation at a Pueblo West school due to an explosion in the school laboratory.

The Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) is a partnership between FEMA and the U.S. Department of the Army that provides emergency preparedness assistance and resources to communities surrounding the Army’s chemical warfare agent stockpiles.
